About Alice Hoyt Veen

Alice Hoyt VeenAlice Hoyt Veen is the founder of Prairie Roots Research, providing genealogical and historical research to clients who seek superior research solutions. She specializes in solving genealogical “brick walls.”

Alice has been a dedicated genealogist for nearly thirty years. A native of Iowa, she grew up in Monroe and Mahaska County, an area with a rich history. She has been a volunteer researcher for the Mahaska County Commission for the Preservation of Pioneer Cemeteries since 1998 and has researched, cataloged and archived historical artifacts as a volunteer for Forest Park Museum in Dallas County.

In 2009 Alice began providing professional genealogical and historical research services. A past board member of the Iowa Genealogical Society, she serves as the society’s eNews and bimonthly newsletter editor.

A graduate of Iowa State University, Alice completed Advanced Methodology & Evidence Analysis Course Four at the Institute for Genealogical and Historical Research, Samford University in June 2011. She has also completed the National Genealogical Society’s Intermediate/Advanced Study Course and the Basic Level Genealogy Series through the Institute for Genealogical Studies, University of Toronto.

In September 2011, Alice completed the ProGen Study Program. This professional genealogical study course emphasizes excellence in research and reporting, and promotes ethical business practices. She continues her education by attending local, state and national conferences.
